Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American musician, actress, and rapper. Her work as a music actor, filmmaker and TV performer has earned her two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded an Grammy Award and six other Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was born and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita a schoolteacher who worked for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. as a police officer. Her father and mother divorced when Latifah reached the age of ten. Latifah was a student at a Catholic school and was educated in Newark New Jersey. She attended the Baptist church. Latifah refers to gentle and generous. Her mother gave it to her at the age of 8. Latifah is who was 5'10" tall power forward on the team at her high school, was always a tall girl. In her high school's play, Latifah performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah started beatboxing in the fresh rap ladies. Latifah was part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who were united around the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps, Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music, who worked for Latifah at the time, was impressed by her song. In 1988, she dropped Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's first single.
